When you have dissociative identity disorder, you become inundated with memories of horrific abuse committed against your person in childhood. However, as survivors, we fight to keep our emotions in check and not allow them to overwhelm us.

Christmas offers a unique time of year when we are forced to join the world in its happy indulgences during the holidays. Getting together with family and friends is painful for those who have DID, bringing flashbacks and negative self-talk.

This article will highlight methods you, as a survivor, can use to help you survive the holidays with your emotions intact.

Painful Holiday Memories

Not everyone has warm and fuzzy memories of holidays past. Indeed, most survivors with dissociative identity disorder were subjected to abuse during this time of year. The reason for the uptick in childhood abuse is that the children were out of school and exposed to relatives who were not trustworthy.

How does one overcome horrendous childhood memories?
